Whenever you hear a manager say, "I'm not good at giving positive recognition. That's just not me." Ask them if they have an incurable genetic disease that is prohibiting them from giving people the recognition that they deserve.

People follow you into battle, either literally, or in the corporate marketplace, because they respect you, not because you order them to. If employees or soldiers don't want to follow you, they won't. They will do the absolute minimum, on the surface, and probably work to sabotage you behind the scenes.
