Focus

If you chase two rabbits...you will not catch either one.  -Russian Proverb.  The moral of the story?  Focus!  With so many distractions these days - information overload, and playing with our iPhone's and iPad's, the ability to focus is hard.  Focus on the "one" thing, not three or ten, just one thing, that gives you the best chance for achieving your dreams.  If you have a laser like focus on that "one" thing, you'll achieve it faster.

The Impact of Your Belief System

Many years ago a Nashville physician named Clinton Meador had a patient named Sam Londe.  Mr. Londe died of cancer but not from cancer.  The doctor mistakenly thought and told Mr. Londe that he had cancer and Londe believed him.  The doctor, like some parents, teachers and bosses removed hope and re-programmed Mr. Londe's belief system into believing he had cancer and was powerless against it.  Your belief system is like the software that runs your computer.  What type to belief system do you have?

Attitude Surveys

Use attitude surveys on a continuing basis to predict turnover and measure job satisfaction.  This can be done simply by asking employees on an anonymous survey whether they plan to quit within the next year and then posing questions to uncover the chief sources of dissatisfaction.  The results can be cross-tabulated and provide useful information for improving retention and making accurate predictions of turnover.

Questions as Strategy

Ask questions and avoid commands about what your employees should do.  By asking questions, managers force employees to think things through.  That practice has a developmental purpose.  In time, employees will begin to think like their manager.  Orders and commands will discourage questions and will not prompt employees to think for themselves or even model how their immediate supervisor thinks.
